Hallo! Just got back from a week in Iceland. Let me tell you that a week is not enough. Iceland is a natural marvel. It’s a land where nature writes poetry on a volcanic canvas—a remote Nordic island floating between North America and Europe, just below the Arctic Circle. It’s a country of raw power and serene beauty, where glaciers, geysers, waterfalls, and black sand beaches coexist under the shimmering glow of the northern lights.
Iceland’s dramatic terrain was shaped by volcanic eruptions and glaciers, earning it the nickname, “Land of Fire and Ice”. Key highlights are Thingvellir National Park—a rift valley where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Gullfoss—the “Golden Waterfall”, is regarded as one of the most breathtaking cascades in Europe. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon with surreal blue icebergs drifting quietly to the Atlantic. Reynisfjara Beach—a haunting black sand shore lined with basalt sea stacks. The Blue Lagoon, near Reykjavik—the milky-blue, mineral-rich waters surrounded by lava rock.
Of course, let’s not miss Reykjavik—a small Capital with a big soul. It’s the world’s northernmost capital. It feels like a cozy village fused with modern art energy. Here you’ll find colorful houses, street murals, and ocean views at every turn. It has a thriving music and food scene. Bjork, one of the most recognizable artists hails from Iceland. She’s not alone as there’s a long list of talented Icelandic musicians and artists. Also of note is the world-class cuisine featuring Arctic char, lamb, and adventurous dishes like fermented shark.
Icelanders are proud descendants of Viking settlers, yet they’re among the most modern, eco-conscious, and creative people in the world. They believe in storytelling and mythology—elves, trolls, and hidden people are still part of the national imagination.
To visit Iceland is to experience contrast—warmth in the cold, stillness in the storm, vastness in solitude. It’s not just a destination; its a feeling—a reminder that the Earth is alive and so are you.
We were able to witness many of the most prominent natural scenes. When you look through our images, you will most definitely miss something—the Northern Lights with its bold Emerald light show dancing in the sky. Unfortunately, she showed up once for a brief few minutes. Seeing it with the naked eye is a magical experience. To capture her majesty was a gift considering the weather we were experiencing. The rainy weather with heavy cloud cover during our week visit did not offer multiple opportunities to witness the Aurora Borealis in all her glory. So, the chase is on to capture her sky dance. More to follow. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the scenes we were able to capture during our trip. Takk!
